| House Details: Our 2 story (ground floor and upper floor) house is part of a converted barn, retaining its own flair with original wooden beams visible in the living and bedroom. Downstairs are two rooms - one bed room with en-suite including a small kitchenette and separate door to a small garden (our “Guest Apartment”) - and another room used as office with foldout sofa and own toilet / shower in the hallway. There is also a laundry room with a door to a small sheltered garden on the groundfloor. Upstairs is our combined living and dining area with open plan kitchen of about 50 square metres with direct access to a roof terrace of about 40 sqm from where we can watch sun sets. Our large bedroom with walk in robe and en-suite is located behind the living/dining room. Furthermore we have a guest toilet and a small store room upstairs.
In addition to the above we also own a fully self contained and equipped holiday flat (located below our bedroom/part living room) of 48 sqm comprising a living room, bedroom with 2 x 2 m bed, fully equipped kitchen and bathroom with shower.
A large LCD TV is available in the living room with smaller LCD TVs in the office, apartment and the holiday flat. |

There are 4 golf courses within 30 km (actual driving distance) from our house. I (Lothar) favour the Golf & Country Club Hohwacht and am a full member there. The course has many water and sand traps. I particularly like the Par 4 No. 7 hole which features a challenging island green. Although the course is easy to walk it requires some course management.
I also like Golf Club Brodauer Muehle because of its wonderful landscape and views over the Baltic Sea. The first six holes are easy but the rest is very hilly, with some blind shots. A cart is almost a must.
There are at least 12 golf courses within one hour driving distance - under normal traffic conditions - from our house. For Euro 125,- a golf package is available under www.golfpaket-ostsee.de to play each one round on 5 courses out of a selected 8 courses named previously.
Our area
Ostholstein is an extension of Holsteinische Schweiz, a typical hilly landscape known for their rolling, wonderful yellow canola fields in spring. We live about 20 km from the Island of Fehmarn and the nearest beaches are about 12 km away. The City of Hamburg is about 120 kilometers (110 km Autobahn) away.
About ourselves
We (Uschi 66 and Lothar 68) are both retired and have been living / working for 20 years in Cyprus and Australia. In down under we initially travelled to country for four years with an 4wheel drive and offroad caravan and in between travels gained experience as international “house sitters”, primarily in the Brisbane / Coffs Harbour area. Because of our many grandchildren we returned to Germany last year. Although we formed a new base in Germany we still love travelling and would like to swap houses anywhere near or far away. |
